PORTBALLINTRAE EXTENSION FEATURES IN LIVING DESIGN MAGAZINE
We are proud to announce that Nest Architects' modern extension to an existing 1920’s two storey dwelling situated at Portballintrae features in this month’s Spring issue of Living Design, the official Journal of the Royal Society of Ulster Architect (RSUA) and sister publication to Perspective. Published only twice a year by Ulster Journals, Living Designs ethos is to encourage the very best design standards and promote excellence in local architecture across the province and it is a privilege that our work has been selected for publication.
For this project, the client wished to reconfigure the existing accommodation to facilitate modern family living in an open plan arrangement which connected to the external environment and so engaged Nest Architects to create a design that met their aspirations. The outcome was a modern conceptual building form inspired by the family’s interest in surfing with a surf board profiled cantilever framing the connection between indoor and outdoor living spaces. The simple and restrained material palette of self-coloured white render walls allows reference to the historic character of the local whitewashed cottages nestled around the Ballintrae Bay whilst subtle use of hardwood timber cladding adds warmth and a homely feeling to the overall design. More information and images of this project can be seen on our Designs Page under Taggart House, Portballintrae.
If you are considering the idea of renovating, extending or building your new dream home, that offers modern family living spaces similar to this project located at Portballintrae, then why not contact the team at Nest Architects for an informal discussion to begin the design process.
